Mr. Robert Duane "Coach" Talley, 65 died Saturday afternoon, June 5, 2010 at St. Joseph's Hospital. Born in Corinth, Mississippi, to the late Robert Leonard Talley and Eloise Rigby Talley, he was a Catholic and a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Talley was a 1962 graduate of Corinth High High School and a 1967 alumnus of Mississippi State University.  Mr. Talley was a coach and teacher at Mercer Middle School (Savannah, GA) for 30 years. He was an avid 1967 alumnus of Mississippi State University and enjoyed traveling. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Romanda Harvey Talley; daughter, Chenoa Talley Jacobs and her husband, Bob Jacobs and two grandchildren, Wren and Reid, all of Nashville, TN; sister, Elinor Sue Talley Coleman and her husband, Dennis Scott Coleman of Kossuth, MS; brother, Ted Eugene Talley and his wife, Kathy Talley of Rogersville, AL; one sister-in-law, Sandra Harvey Hawkins and her husband, Dr. Robert N. Hawkins of Greenville, SC; one brother-in-law, Tolson James Harvey and his wife Barbara Harvey of Mt. Olive, MS and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

 

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Memphis, TN 38148, or to the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 4056, Port Wentworth, GA 31407.

Note:  Duane lived not far from my home on Jackson Street when I lived in Corinth.  I most remember him as a wonderful baseball player and a young man with wit and humor.  He touched many lives as a coach and his players remember him as an encouraging and positive mentor--Joe Ray Underwood
